It is the first page leading into the elearning course.
Purpose of the Start Up Page?
The purpose of the introduction screen is to set the mood and engage or excite the trainee about the learning.

In addition, most important value in the start up window is in it's ability to introduce the trainee to highlights and course objectives. How is this subtle introduction achieved? Relative animation should contain course objectives or goals as part of the animated startup page.
Using Flash and or the programming potential of Flash could help to create a very engaging and attention getting start up page for your training course.
Opening Screen Technique
To help in creating rich start up pages for you elearning courses you should keep in mind the following:
Singular Goal - Plan to introduce several of the course learning objectives and the terminal objective into the course start up page.
Multiple Media - Take advantage of music, sound effects and animation.
Most introductions screens will have irrelevant motion flying around on the course intro page. The animation should be carefully orchestrated to demonstrate a instructional concept or reenforce valuable course material.

Often the introduction screen is referred to as the Splash Screen. No mater what term is used the objective and purpose of the start up remains the same.
In it’s early days, the screen was sometimes referred to as the beginning screen. As with most internet related terms old terms make way for newer sound bites.
